CARLSBAD, Oct. 30, 2008 -- Beloved former Councilwoman Ramona Finnila is urging her supporters to take
a second look at political newcomer Thomas K. Arnold, one of six candidates for two open positions on the
Carlsbad City Council.
"Having just met Thomas K. Arnold, I now consider him someone who is worthy of consideration," Finnila
said. "He has a high energy level and a good sense of what needs to be done in Carlsbad for our future."
Finnila served on the Carlsbad City Council from 1992 until 2004. She was known for her diligence and hard
work, her integrity and her dedication. She was the council¹s liaison with SANDAG (San Diego Association of
Governments), and over the years served as chair and vice chair. She also served on various SANDAG
committees, including transportation, energy, budget and public safety.
Among the Carlsbad projects, programs and issues Finnila worked on were the Habitat Management
Conservation Plan, Legoland, Palomar Airport, the senior volunteer patrol, affordable housing, community-
activity funding, and Connecting Community, Place and Spirit.
Finnila is currently vice chair of the San Diego Regional Airport Authority and chair of the Palomar Airport
Advisory Committee.
Arnold, a 50-year-old magazine publisher and longtime San Diego journalist, has a long history of community
involvement, from coaching youth sports for the YMCA, Carlsbad Boys & Girls Club and Carlsbad Wave
Soccer to serving as Parent-Teacher Group president of St. Patrick Parish School.
